One tech news site I used to read avidly was the British site The Register. Not only was it news about shit I was following (mainly microprocessor news at the time, in addition to other stuff), but they had a tendency to be pretty funny about it as well. Although I only read El Reg every now and then as opposed to religiously (got pretty sick of the whole microprocessor game), they've still got the knack for interesting tech news writing. They have this series called "Rise of the Machines," which is about avdances in technology that "threaten" humanity or instances of technology gone berserk. I found this pretty amusing, as well as its follow-up.
